About me
With a deep respect for organizational values and culture and an active commitment to social and racial justice, I provide relationship-based and trauma-informed training and support for people and organizations. I help them put missions into action, make decisions, share expertise, and change our communities and the world.
Before starting this work in 2015, I held different roles including Executive Director, Political and Communications Director, Program Director, and Organizer.
For ten years, I was the Executive Director of Write Around Portland, which runs community-based writing workshops in prisons, hospitals, schools, social service agencies, and shelters. I led strategic planning to strengthen programs and meet demand; developed and refined our workshop curriculum; trained and supported more than 250 volunteer workshop facilitators; and enlisted the support of hundreds of donors and volunteers annually. During my tenure, I engaged a dedicated board and staff and solidified and diversified funding, achieving best practices in nonprofit finance and sustainability. In 2020-21, I was Interim Executive Director at YWCA Clark County in Southwest Washington, guiding the Y through leadership transition and vital service delivery at the start and first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Missouri and Oregon, I worked in the labor movement; in progressive electoral and legislative politics at the local, state, and federal levels; in issue advocacy; and coalition building. As a volunteer, I serve as: - Board Member, Safety and Justice Oregon and Safety and Justice PAC - Board Treasurer, New Room Studios - Essay Judge, Al Forthan Memorial Scholarship Fund - Weekly volunteer since 2015 at VOA-Oregon’s Men’s Residential Center, an addiction treatment facility for men in the criminal justice system I am a Certified Grief Educator, and I hold a degree in African-American Studies with a minor in Art History from Washington University in St. Louis.
